From Geek To Gorgeous

Hello, everyone! Thanks for having me here to talk about hot nerds and the women who love them.

If you love a hot geeky guy, raise your hand! (Picture me with both hands raised). Gosh, there’s something I love about a guy with brains. It’s so sexy when they’re so smart. I’m fanning myself here.

So, yeah, I have a thing for the hero in my newest book Perfectly Charming. His name is Ryan Reyes and he grew up awkward, geeky and a misfit. The only child of academic parents, the gifted boy skips ahead three grade levels and thus ends up the heroine’s lab partner senior year. Jess feels bad for the boy her friends dub her “puppy” (everyone else calls him The Brain). And Ryan does what everyone expects him to do, he zips through college, med school and obtains a research position at Caltech, even winning accolades and a large sum of money for discovering grafting material in stem cell research. But then one day he has an epiphany….

“And because a drunk bum said you needed some dirt, you walked away from—” Jess trailed off.

“No, it was more like the final nail in the coffin, so to speak. I mean, the guy was pretty wasted, and I didn’t really trust his brand of therapy, but it was a lightbulb moment. I could see I wasn’t truly living.” Ryan drew a circle in the sand with his big toe. “As I climbed the stairs to my apartment, I realized I’d never had a fight with a woman. Hell, I’d never had a relationship with a woman. I didn’t have buds to drink with . . . I had never even been drunk. No pets. No prospect of children. No silly songs to sing. Nothing. My life was . . . a vacuum. I’d missed out on so much by living this plan my parents had conceived for me—or maybe it was one I never questioned. Either way, it pissed me off.”

“So you quit your life?”

Ryan smiled. “No, I didn’t quit. I started living, truly living. I became a man who didn’t live for work. I needed more than scientific discoveries to keep me warm at night. I needed to plunge myself into a life worth living.”

So Ryan changes his life. The problem is he doesn’t really know how to be regular. I envisioned him a bit like Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory. I imagined what Sheldon would do if he wanted to be a regular dude. I figured someone Sheldon-like would do research about what that means. He’d read books, observe men in their natural habitat and make charts.

He was a dude. Not a nerd. Or a dweeb. Or a geek.

Dude.

Gym time assured his body was similar to those guys modeling underwear and cologne in magazines. Owning a big boat and hooking big fish gave him street cred. Or was that marina cred? Drinking beer and shooting pool ensured he seemed normal . . . even if he kept a mental tab of pocket accuracy, which, by the way, was up to 83 percent thanks to watching YouTube videos posted by pool sharks. His collection of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Dr. Who videos were well hidden beneath titles like Bull Durham and Rocky. Although to be honest, he’d never made it all the way through Bull Durham, probably because of the trauma he’d suffered at the hands of Morning Glory High School’s all-district catcher Bruce “The Goose” Mahoney and his all-state pitcher bud, Benton Mason.

This geek was the guy Jess Culpepper knew growing up, so she totally doesn’t recognize her former lab partner when she trips over a gorgeous, naked and very drunk guy on the beach one night. At first she’s more concerned with getting the good-looking stranger some clothes and help back upstairs. As a nurse, she’s used to seeing naked bodies, but she’s not blind. Ryan Reyes is HOT. Add in the green eyes and the dark hair, and her drunk is a perfect tall, dark and handsome find on the beach.

I hope you’ll check out this fun beach fling romance as Jess struggles to heal from her recent divorce and Ryan struggles to seduce his dream girl. It’s the perfect bookend for the summer. Thanks for letting me stop by!

Morning Glory native Jess Culpepper is desperate to get out of town after divorcing the only man she’s ever dated. She takes a temporary nursing job in Florida and, thanks to the bequest of her late friend, Lacy, has the funds to rent a condo right on the beach. She’s not prepared to literally trip over her old high school lab partner—and definitely not prepared for how deliciously hot he is now.

Ryan Reyes, once known as “The Brain,” has worked hard to become more than the skinny nerd that jocks bullied and girls politely tolerated. At twenty-six, he has retired from science to run a charter fishing business in Pensacola and spend his leisure time catching up on the debauchery he missed. But when the unattainable girl of his teenage fantasies moves in down the beach, old feelings come flooding back.

Their scorching attraction soon leads them into bed—but what starts as no-strings-attached fun is complicated by a return to Morning Glory and the shadows of their shared past. Can the head cheerleader and the geek redefine themselves and forge ahead to find their happily ever after?
