Feature and Giveaway: Always You by Roxie Noir

I’ve been broken since the day I was born, with a past full of ugly secrets and a brother doing life in prison.

Not that you’d know it if you read the tabloids. According to them I’m the rock-solid guitarist for the biggest band in the world. I’m the dependable one. The steady one. The anchor.

They don’t know the truth. No one knows who I am underneath, once the music is over and the lights are off.

No one but Darcy.

She’s my best friend. She’s my fucking savior, my light in the dark, beautiful as hell and talented as fuck and every bit as broken as me.

And I fucking yearn for her. I have for years. I see the way she looks at me, what’s behind her eyes.

I know what she thinks about alone, in the dark, because how could I not know.

It’s getting worse. Every second, every heartbeat, every moment we spend together and every secret we share makes me want her more. Even though I know that one kiss, one night could ruin everything we have, I need her.

And for Darcy, I’ll risk it all.

ARC Review: Dirty Little Secret by Kendall Ryan

I have become a huge fan of Kendall Ryan's over the years, enjoying many of her books. So when I saw that she had a new series coming out, I couldn't wait to read it. I loved the sound of this blurb though, and this is one I have been itching to get my hands on since I first heard about it. I enjoyed it from start to finish and couldn't put it down! For some reason I had missed that this had a cliffhanger though, and I am dying for the next one now!

Gavin's childhood was one that had him and his brothers determined to find success. They started a business together doing what they knew best and it has made them very rich in the process. He finds himself drawn to Emma, but he knows that he is wrong for her and that she deserves better. When the two start to really get to know one another though, things become complicated as Gavin and Emma realize that there is more than attraction between them.

I really liked the characters in this book! Kendall Ryan always creates such sexy and alpha heroes, and I loved getting to know Gavin and his brothers a bit here! They are all really easy to fall for and you can't help but want more of them. I loved them all, and I am already anxious for more of one of them in particular. They ooze sex appeal and make you want to be the heroine of the story. Emma was easy to like and I felt like she was just a sweet and genuine heroine. She seemed real and down to earth, comforting those around her. She was one of those characters that it just felt like everyone was drawn to effortlessly and I thing that she was so good with Gavin.

Overall, I don't want to give too much away but I loved the characters and the story here and after that ending, I definitely need the next one! I think readers are going to love this book just like I did and this is definitely one of my favorites from Kendall to date. Kendall Ryan knows how to draw the reader in and captivate them until the very last word, and Dirty Little Secret had me from the very first page. Sexy, sweet and full of truths yet to be revealed, this book had me guessing from the start. I look forward to the next book in this series as well as getting to know the secondary characters better as this series continues. If you are a fan of Kendall's, you are going to want to pick this one up and if you are new to her books this is one worth taking a chance on.

ARC Review: Dirty Dancing at Devil's Leap by Julie Anne Long

Julie Anne Long is a hit or miss author with me, I read one of her contemporary books in the past and didn’t care for it.  I also read one of her historical, “It Started With a Scandal” which I absolutely loved and have read and re-read several times. If anyone is a historical fiction reader, “It Started With a Scandal” is a must read.  “Dirty Dancing at Devil’s Leap” has been on my e-reader for a few weeks now and it wasn’t until I read so many great reviews about it that I started to read it.

The story starts Avalon Harwood.  When the story begins she is at the top of her game.  Thanks to an ingenious idea she has joined Silicon Valley’s top programmers when she invents a virtual game that makes her not only a lot of money, but also very famous.  It is only when she is feeling at her best, at the top of her game, when she happens to walk in on her boyfriend and their intern in the middle of having sex.  Ava is furious, not only is her boyfriend-well hers, but he is also her business partner.  She packs up her bags and heads to her hometown- Hellcat Canyon.

When she returns to Hellcat Canyon Ava reminisces about her childhood and also her childhood love-  Maximilian “Mac” Coltrane.  Max comes from a very wealthy family and when he and Ava were growing up they were from very different backgrounds-him wealthy hers not.  Now because of turn in events, Ava is the wealthy one and Max is living a life very different from the one he grew up accustomed to.  When Max’s childhood home is put up on the market Ava wins it in an auction, she feels like she has finally been able to fulfill her childhood dreams and plans to turn the house around-it has decayed over the years- and sell it. Fortunately, or unfortunately, for Ava has very different plans and he wants to buy back his childhood home and get Ava off his property.  Both Ava and Max are worthy opponents and they have plenty of mischief up their sleeves. I’ll just say nudist and smelly fertilizer is involved.

Overall, this was a cute story but it felt very long and drawn out.  The secondary characters seemed more like fillers and I didn’t really gain too much interest in them. Max was a nice hero but there weren’t too many qualities about him that really made him memorable.  One of the reasons that Ava and him had a falling out was because when they were dating Ava heard Max say deeming things about Ava and her financial circumstances.  As he grew up and became more of himself and less of his father, Max was very sorry for the hurtful things he said and did not feel the same anymore.  He spent his adult years become more of himself. Even though I didn’t love this story I do plan to keep reading more books by Julie Ann Long.

ARC Review: Perilous Trust by Barbara Freethy

This book starts off really fast paced and draws you right in to the story line. In the very first scene, Sophie's father, Alan, an FBI agent, leaves her a message. The message turns out to be his dying words and his instructions for her survival. In the message he tells her run and don't trust anybody, especially his fellow agents. The issue is that one of those agents, Damon, has been in Sophie's head since she had a one night stand with him 4 years ago. Damon didn't know that Sophie was the daughter of his FBI mentor and Sophie didn't know Damon was an agent in training at the time of the hook up. All they knew was that they were in the middle of a bad moment and the chemistry between them was undeniable.

Fast forward four years and Damon is basically the only person Sophie can sort of trust. They both set out to follow the cryptic clues her Father left her to determining who inside the FBI is a mole and just what Sophie's Father was into. The book rotates POV's between several of the characters but is mostly told from Damon and Sophie's POV. The characters are strong and the mystery is well conceived.

For me this book lost some of it's steam about a third of the way in. Once Sophie and Damon are on the road, the plot develops slower than I would have liked. I was also hoping that the chemistry between Sophie and Damon would be more obvious. The author uses flashbacks to explain how Damon and Sophie were attracted to each other in the past. My issue is that I just didn't feel the chemistry in the story told in the present tense. The other thing is that I felt like the mystery and suspense kind of lulled at places in the book. If you read the first few chapters of this book, it's exciting and you feel like this is going to be one of the heart racing suspense novels. But there are parts of this book where I think the author tries to focus on Damon and Sophie's personal relationship and the mystery and suspense slow way down.

These books are best for readers like me when both the romance and the suspense maintain their intensity. Because this one hit some down times, I ended up feeling like it was definitely good but I still wanted something more.

ARC Review: The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

I’ve had a galley of “The Duchess Deal” for several weeks and I cannot believe it took me until the publication date to get around to reading it! I’ve read Tessa Dare before and loved her books! “The Duchess Deal” had me laughing so hard I had to out the book down. There are so many funny and witty scenes I re-read them several times. I started highlighting witty dialogue and then gave up because more than half of the book would be highlighted! This is a true beauty and a beast love story with laughter, tenderness and very, very, sexy scenes!

First, the heroine. She is one of my all-time favorites! Emma Gladstone vicar’s daughter turned seamstress was everything anyone could hope for in a heroine. She is sweet, tender, tough, funny witty and resourceful! Life has knocked her down a few times and she fought her way up. With pricked fingers from her trade she marches up to the Duke of Ashbury and demands compensation for the gown she sewed for his ex-fiancée. Although the wedding never took place, Emma needs the money to pay for her rent. Emma refuses to be kicked out on the street and in the cold again. She went down that road once before and she won’t do it again.

Soon after his engagement is called off, Ash finds himself in need of a wife. It shouldn’t be so hard since he is extremely wealthy. But the brutal scars he received on the battlefield are deterrents to any lady of the ton. When Emma appears in his study wearing his ex-fiancee’s wedding dress Ash is sure that he has never seen anything like this before. First the dress is hideous and Ash tells Emma so and second he is in desperate need of a duchess. When Ash makes Emma an offer she cannot refuse-she refuses! She is certain that Ash is mentally unstable and gratefully takes her fee for the dress and leaves. But Ash is not ready to concede defeat yet and he finds Emma at the local dress shop where she works. Emma realizes that she is given an opportunity that she will never receive again. Her father has disowned her and her trade will only take her so far. She accepts but Ash has very specific rules for their union. Theirs is a union of convenience and there is to be no affection between them. Once Emma provides Ash with an heir her duties will have been completed and she can run off to a little house he owns in the country and live out the rest of her existence as she wishes. The plan seems simple enough if Emma and Ash don’t end up falling in love with one another. But both Emma and Ash carry a lot of hurt and anger from their past. They are both not use to feeling vulnerable since in the past it has ended up with both their hearts broken.

Needless to say this was such a fun story to read! It was so gratifying on so many levels. The witty quips back and forth and the amazing chemistry made Ash or “bumpkin” as Emma likes to call him, a great couple. I really enjoyed both of them as individual characters and as a couple. I ached for them and all the hurt that they carried and triumphed with them when they finally find love! This is definitely one of my all-time favorite stories!

ARC Review: Lust by Emma Hart

I couldn't wait to get my hands on Lust after finishing Sin by Emma Hart! While Lust is the second book in the Vegas Nights series, each book can be read as a standalone story. I would recommend reading in order if possible though as they are interconnected and they do overlap a bit. I was so excited for Lust though and Emma Hart definitely didn't let me down here.

Lust is Perrie Fox and Adrian Potter's story. Perrie Fox is Damien's sister from Sin, she is a single mother working as a prostitute to provide for her daughter. Adrian Potter is a detective tasked with shutting down the prostitutes in his city. Both are just trying to provide for their children, but when Adrian arrests Perrie he knows that she is doing all that she can for her daughter and sees it as an opportunity for them to help each other. But as they get to know one another and grow closer, can the cop and the hooker possibly have a future together?

This book was hot and sexy, but it was so much more than that. Perrie and Adrian had a connection that was surprising and yet just felt right. These two had a ton of chemistry, but it was the depth and emotion that really got me here. I loved them for one another and couldn't get enough! I have to say though that the kids absolutely stole the show here! They were adorable, and I just loved them.

Overall, this was a great book! I enjoyed it from start to finish and I think that readers are going to really like this one like I did. The story was great and had everything you could ask for in a great romance novel. It was sexy and sweet, and filled with emotion. Emma Hart is a fantastic writer and this series is one that I have really enjoyed reading. If you haven't read these books yet, I definitely recommend them.

Audiobook Review: Test Drive by Riley Hart, Narrated by Sean Crisden

I absolutely LOVE Riley Hart's books! She is one of my go-to authors when I am looking for a fantastic story. She has never let me down, and I love that she can bring the steam as well as all the feels! This series just might be my favorite of hers, and if you are a fan of M/M books you have to read these! Sean Crisden is the narrator for Test Drive, and I think he is the perfect fit to bring Riley's words to life!

Just after learning that his dad has cancer and a family that Justin never knew about, he leaves his life behind to help his dad try and make amends for his past. While trying to find his place in a family he never knew about with his new siblings, Justin goes out to let off a little steam and has a hookup that just leaves him wanting more. But when he finds out that his hookup is actually his new sister's brother in law, he knows things are about to get even more complicated. Though both know that they can't be together for several reasons, Justin and Drew find themselves unable to stay away from each other and soon things between them are much more than friendly. But can it possibly something lasting with everything between them, especially when Justin's plan is to return home?

I loved these two. They were sexy and funny, and absolutely perfect for each other. I loved their playfulness and banter, but I also couldn't get enough of the deeper connection that they had. I loved Drew so much for being exactly what Justin needed, and always seeing it even when Justin was a bit lost. I was so glad that Justin had him and that Drew didn't care who found out because he was determined to be there for Justin in every way he needed him to be. My heart went out to Justin who was losing his dad and also the only life he had ever known.

Overall, this book was everything. I just loved it from start to finish, seeing Drew and Justin figure things out between them, and also seeing Justin get to know his siblings. There was just so much love and family and my heart was so full at the end of this book. It had everything I love in a great romance with a cast of characters that are unique and feel so real and genuine. I have loved each couple in this series, and Justin and Drew were no different. They captured my heart right away and I will always adore them. I thought that Sean Crisden brought so much emotion and life to every part of this story and listening to Riley's words through him was such a great experience. The story was fantastic and so was the narration, I can't recommend this one enough!
